Happy New Year!

Tonight, I'm planning on quilting my way in to the new year!  We're not really party peeps in this house...we took a long nap and we may even have to set an alarm (and the Tivo) just in case we fall asleep before the big countdown!  I'm hoping that if I keep myself busy by sewing all night, I'll be bright and alert all the way to 2012.  But for those of you who are planning to live it up tonight, I would like to share a few words of wisdom from my college work study supervisor (she was awesome!):

Be good.
And if you can't be good, be safe.
And if you can't be safe, name it after me!
 Happy New Year everyone!!

Dear Quilts,

I've missed making you.  Thanks for the speed date last week!
Love,
Shannon
This is the other Christmas present I made!  We went to NYC last weekend.  I was trying to decide between Purl Soho and The City Quilter when the hubs suggested we go to both.  (I seriously have the best husband on the planet!  If you try to argue with me, you might be the recipient of a donkey kick.  Just sayin'.   He even helped me pick colors and carried the bolts of fabric around the stores for me!)

I used Crazy Mom's tutorial - super fast, super easy!  You should definitely check it out!  I was in such a hurry to get started on the quilt that I didn't get pics of each fabric, so I hope this little mosaic thingy will do:
1. Bear Essentials 2. Bear Essentials 3. Weekends (Go By Bike)
4. Weekends (Hopscotch) 5. Kona (white) 6. Kona (cerise)
7. Bright Lights Big City (wire print) 8. Cotton Couture (petal) 9. Habitat (dandelion)

I used the grey-ish one in the bottom right corner for the backing.   I got about 3 yards on sale...on two different occasions.
You can't really see it, but I finally used a scrappy binding!  I always love them when I see them (plus I didn't buy enough of anything to use a single fabric for the whole binding!) - I'm so glad I went for it!  For the quilting I just used my walking foot as a guide and stitched on either side of each seam...plus one "invisible" zigzag on the top.  I finished this one in record time too: started on Sunday, finished on Friday, and out of the dryer with only an hour to spare before we left for the airport!

Final stats
Size: 40-something" x 50-something"
Fabrics: 100% cotton, listed above
Batting: 50% bamboo, 50% organic cotton
Piecing Thread: Aurifil white
Quilting Thread: King Tut, white
Recipient: one super-cute, brand new baby named Greta!

Happy Boxing Day to all...

...and to all a good night!

I really wanted to write a Merry Christmas post.  I even planned ahead, took lots of pictures....and then we forgot the thingamabob that transfers pictures from the camera to the iPad....oops!  So Happy Boxing Day peeps!

I didn't really do a lot of holiday crafting...to say that I wasn't prepared for Christmas would be a gross understatement.  (Heck, we didn't even put ornaments on our Christmas tree...just lights!)  I did manage to eek out a couple of gifts though.  First, I made these little dolls for my nieces.
I used the pattern from last year's Fat Quarterly Holiday Special.  I LOVE these little cuties!!  I have one blond niece and one brunette (turning blond as I type though) so I made an Evie doll (blond) and a Kat doll (brunette)!  I started them during a play date at Audrie's house.  (On a side note, it seems that no matter what we try to do together, we spend about 90% of the time chatting and 10% doing whatever we set out to do...it's especially hard to focus at Audrie's house too...so many sewing goodies and yummy quilts to look at!!  Plus I'm really easily distracted!)  Anyway, I wanted to make the dolls look a bit like my nieces - they have my skin tone - pasty, Stay-Puft-marshmallow-man pale!  Thanks to Audrie and her stash, I got some nice creamy felt for the skin.  (I did find something on my own, but they would have looked more like Mediterranean Sun Goddesses than pale little Polish girls!)
My mom delivered them yesterday.  I'm sure they'll be invited to a tea party soon!

I'll save my second Christmas craft for later in the week.  It's getting late and I need to stop typing and eat ice cream!  (Hey, I have my priorities!)  I hope everyone had a great Christmas/Hanukkah/Winter Solstice!

Hey girl...

So today sucked the big wahooky!  Actually, work was fine, but then Banana Republic got me all fired up.  And not in a good way.  (FYI, all I wanted to do was exchange a pair of pants for the EXACT SAME pair of pants in a different size...BR tells me this can't be done without some serious documentation and a million week waiting period for the post office to deliver my store credit...I left customer feedback...I'll probably have to call back tomorrow and leave more feedback...)

ANYWAY, what turned it all around was this post from my homeboy!  I read it this morning while I ate breakfast...oatmeal almost came out of my nose!  Then after the whole BR madness, I read it again and I can't stop laughing!  It turned my frown upside down!  And be sure to check out the site Quilt Dad referenced...Handmade Ryan Gosling.  Awesome!

(Oh, and in between work and Christmas stuff and the dogs and family visits and errands and weekend trips to NYC, I have actually managed to be a tiny bit crafty....I'll be good and post quilty pictures again soon!)

Hello, my name is Quilt...

...and I am an addict.

I had to put it all on a dinner tray to carry it outside...
Highlights include my goodies from the Lucy and Norman destash (top 4 pics), Organic Soul Blossoms, Little Apples, Heath in 5 colors, Heirloom (by my BF Joel Dewberry), a bunch of Denyse Schmidt from Joann Fabric (yeah, that's on top of my sample sale spoils), random FQs that I HAD to have...and all the reds I've been collecting for my Single Girl (I have 33, I probably only bought 25 of them for this project though...that doesn't mean I have a problem, does it?)...and a bunch of Shades of Grey...   Oh, and some Outfoxed.  Those are just the highlights...and I keep finding more...  I'm trying to control myself but I don't know how long I can go without a fix...  Do they have support groups for this?
