Best day of shopping. Ever.

On Saturday, Audrie and I went to the Denyse Schmidt sample sale!!  What the what!?!  Yep, you read that correctly...the Denyse Schmidt SAMPLE SALE!!  Everything about it was amazing!  The quilt, the fabric, the deals!...  I even talked to DS herself!  I tried to play it cool, but I'm 99.9% sure I acted like an inappropriately flirty teenage girl...I wouldn't be surprised to find out that I had been twirling my hair and giggling and blushing.  Whatever.  I blame her for being so amazing.  You should hop on over to Audrie's blog immediately to check out her pictures!  She immortalized our day in photos.  (I'm probably going to print them out and keep them with me at all times.)  Plus she's awesome.  Go now!

I did not take any pictures while we were there.  I was too busy grabbing everything I could get my hands was like I was on Supermarket Sweep.  Come to think of it, a shopping cart would have really come in handy!  Anyway, I got some delicious presents for myself!
Single Girl quilt, queen size, $75 (Don't be jealous!  Ok, I take that back.  Just go ahead and be jealous if you want to!)
 Spool quilt, twin size, $75
Fat quarter bundles of Daisy Mae and Sugar Creek  (WHAT!?!  Do you know how long it would take me to get all of these with Joann coupons?)

I also got 1 small scrap bag and 3 large scrap bags of solids, which will be perfect for my improv project!...oh wait, did I forget to mention that I'm taking Denyse's Improv Patchwork workshop in February?  THAT'S RIGHT!  Audrie asked if I wanted to go with her...I immediately signed up and started a countdown. (T-minus 95 days and counting.)  I got so much stuff that my arms were sore for two felt like I had been pumpin' iron (if you've ever seen my chicken arms, you know how hilarious that would be!)...but I was really just carrying fabric and quilts around the it sad that I'm so out of shape? or awesome that I found so much stuff to buy?  I'm going with awesome!

We also had cupcakes for lunch at Toppings and stopped at IKEA for fabric and hot dogs.  Don't judge!

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go roll around in my giant pile of goodies!

{That's the sound of Bee Blocks being born!}
November is my month for do. Good Stitches.  (I'm so excited!!) I decided on the Garden Fence block from Hyacinth Designs.  I've seen a few of these quilts floating around Flickr and Blogland and I'm kind of obsessed with them!  I have also been dying (dying, I tell you!) to make a quilt using ye olde aqua/turquoise/orange/gray scheme - so BAM!  my bee block came together!  Instead of the white we're using Kona Ash for the borders and connecting bits.  I already got my first 4 blocks in the mail (I'm not saying for sure, but I may have spotted the envelope, dropped my lunch bag like a hot potato, and thrown the blocks on my design wall within 9 seconds of coming home that day!) and I just saw more lovelies pop up in the Flickr Group!!!  I love 'em, I love 'em, I love 'em!!!

I made 4 blocks of my own over the weekend
Clearly the color is a little off...that's actually Ash in all of them...not periwinkle, damnit!!

I might need to make more to finish off the quilt top (I hope I do...I love making them!) - these blocks were so easy peasy that I wanted to make a TON  (yep, 2,000 pounds of quilt blocks!...or 907 kg for my EuroPeeps!) - but I'm going to be good and wait until the end so I know what colors to use.  It's really hard for me to be good though!

I’d like to thank the Academy

Well, the person I really need to thank is Jenny.  She bestowed upon me the Versatile Blogger Award!!
EEEEEKKKK!  I’m so excited!!! (She actually gave it to me about 2 weeks ago!  Yikes!  Where does the time go?) Ok, so here’s how it works.  First, I tell you 7 things about myself.

1.     In the privacy of my own car (and sometimes in the presence of my poor, tortured husband) I have the singing voice of Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige combined.  COMBINED!  I have the attitude too, complete with the head weaving.  My signature song is “I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues” (the Elton John-Mary J. duet, of course) – I bring the house down every time.  In reality, there’s a slim possibility that I sound like a drowning cat.
2.     Our wedding song  (the one for our first dance) was “All I Ever Need Is You” by Kenny Rogers.  I love it!  We routinely blast it in the car.  We do not turn the volume down at stoplights.  We might be the only people on the planet who blast Kenny Rogers.
3.     I can write backwards.  I taught myself to do it at work so I wouldn’t mix up samples.
4.     I’m addicted to crime shows!  Law and Order, CSI, The First 48, The Shift…Dateline, 48 Hours Mystery, the Mentalist, NCIS…it doesn’t matter if they’re real or fake…I can’t get enough.  Chris claims that if there were a show about missing cats I would watch it.  It’s funny ‘cause it’s true!  I watched a LOT of Animal Cops over the summer.
5.     The thing I love about science is the puzzle.  It’s like solving a mystery, bit by bit.  (Very little bit by very little bit!)
6.     I’ve never gotten a detention or a speeding ticket (even though I drive like Speed Racer).  I think even now if I got a detention (or a speeding ticket) I would cry!
7.     Once upon a time, I was a vegetarian.  Now bacon and steak are my favorite foods – don’t even get me started on bacon-wrapped steak!

Part 2 of the award is to pass it on.  As you can see on the left-hand side of the page, I read a bazillion blogs…I cannot pick favorites!  It’s impossible!  So I’m passing the honor along to my newest bloggy finds:

In other news, the last two weeks have been nothing short of INSANE!  It started when I had to present at our company board meeting - my part took about 4.2 seconds, but I studied for about a week to prepare for it...I'm like that.  Then, just as I recovered from that, we had a snow was ridiculous! looked like a tornado came through our town!  We were out of power (and heat!) for a little over three days - some people are still waiting!  I am many things in life, but tough and rugged are not among them!  I cannot be without heat and hot water!  (Last week I heard someone say "you can take a cold shower" - I didn't understand those words...)  It took me another few days to rebound from my "no heat-no shower-cold breakfast-miserable-freeze your ass off experience"...but I'm finally back in the land of the living and sewing activities have resumed!  Now let's see if I can keep up some sort of momentum with this blog business!
